PHP drove me batshit too. the ill fated (and thus as-of-yet nonexistent) involutionary forum was goanna be PHP-Nuke. i pored over the docs and tied my brain in a few thousand knots and then said FUCK THIS. i guess i could set up some sort of YABB dealie, but frankly i find those little icons and smily faces that YABBs have to be really fucking irritating. maybe i'll have deek set me up with the program he wrote. except that doesn't have html support EITHER and <b>i want HTML support.<b>
