An October Houston Chronicle report on University of Texas biochemist Barrie Otto revealed that currently the only way government inspectors can detect microscopic feces in cereal grain (to ascertain whether the allowable two rat pellets per kilogram of grain has been exceeded) is through visual inspection. Dr. Otto has developed a substance sensitive to the feces that will turn a sample green to make inspection easier.
