John Hartford died June 6th of cancer.
He wasn't famous, which was a shame. Besides being a writer and performer on "The Smothers Brothers Show," he was perhaps best known for writing "Gentle On My Mind," which became a huge hit for Glen Campbell.
In later years, Glen tried to recapture the success of that record by releasing "Gentle On My Head," which flopped miserably, followed by "Gentle On My Wallet," "Gentle On My Ovation Glen Campbell Signature Guitar," "Gentle On My Dick," and "Gentle On My Royalties."
In the early 90's he had a minor hit in the Castro district of San Francisco with "Gentle On My Ass." Glen is now clean and sober and makes a living as a Soprano with the Ozark Opry Company in Roughage, Ark. John Hartford is dead. Oh yeah, I already said that. Sorry.
