It was politicians who justified chattel slavery and politicians who emancipated the slaves. It was politicians who dropped the bombs which killed hundreds of thousands of Japanese and politicians who ended WWII without an invasion of Japan. It's obvious that you hate the folks who were willing to test the effects of fallout upon their own citizens and soldiers. Great. Bring em out and let's put em on trial. But there ain't no connection between George Bush and that event. He wasn't even alive when it happened. HIs dad was a Navy pilot at that time. Those "political bastards" were specific, individual people. Try em and convict em if they're still alive, if ya like. I'd support that effort if there were anything to be gleaned from it. Or perhaps the government should compensate those folks and their families for the damages they accrued to their health while in the service of their country. We're still ahead of the game over what we would have lost with an invasion of the Japanese homeland. I am assuming, of course, that you believe we were on the right side in THAT war. Or perhaps you think our response to Pearl Harbor was excessive. I know you'll probably say that we had foreknowledge of that event and could have prevented it. Perhaps. Does that exclude the Japanese military and their "political bastards" from culpability in that act? Truth is, there's "political bastards" in every organization or collective entity. In everything from the underground punk scene to the summit of global political power there are those who objectify their fellows and see them as something less than really human. The sacrifice of people to ideas was a recurring theme in the last century, and it cost the lives of about 125 millions. We were minor players in that carnage. Most of those people died for communist and fascist utopian schemes driven by leaders gone mad in a will to power that co-opted abstract political ideals and used them in revolutions forced upon the masses from the top down. Ya know, the fact that we placed some of our soldiers close to a nuke to see what the effects would be is pretty shitty, but also pretty tame compared to the kinda stuff we were fightin against at that point. And it ain't got shit to do with Scrub, though yer welcome to be bitter about it. I don't blame ya.
