BBC-America has the extremely annoying habit of broadcasting the same fucking commercials over and over, to the extent of showing the same ones at each station break. Their latest is for a David Bowie retrospective. Since I am obsessed with two BBCA shows, "Changing Rooms" and "Ground Force," I have to "ride the remote" to cut out the commercials. I didn't even notice the Bowie commercials when they first started two weeks ago, just that they opened with the music from the Bowie/Lennon song "Fame." I thought it was a show about Sally Jesse Raphael. No shit. There is a particular shot of Bowie that looks exactly like her, right at the beginning of the commercial, exactly where my brain is timed to tune out the next five minutes of sales blather. By then I usually had hit the mute button and continued on reading, fondling my crotch vigorously or any of the myriad ways I amuse myself during the ubiquitous station breaks. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the show had nothing to do with Sally, and was actually disappointed. Yup. David Bowie looks just like Sally Jesse Raphael. Pass it on.
