Ah grasshopper, as a pro musician who plays a 1975 Yairi 12-string, I must teach you secret of lick-masters of the East: tune down a whole step (D-G-C-F-A-D low to high) and put a real capo (not the elastic-band kind) on the second fret. It lowers the tension by hundreds of pounds and the fret acts as a "zero-fret," improving the action tremendously. The dots all still line up just dandy, as well. Also, the guitar sounds a lot better, more full and rich. Try it, you'll see. Next, try this; play a chord as normal. Then lift the fingers of your left hand slowly off the chord until the notes no longer ring clearly, they just go "thud." Now squeeze just slightly harder until the notes sound clearly again. That's all the pressure you need right there. I tell that trick to all the students I've ever had, because the number one problem with guitarists is squeezing the shit out of the neck. You wanna do that, get a Louisville slugger and string it up. Every time you catch yourself squeezing the neck real hard, it just takes a fraction of a second to relax and soon you won't even have to think about it. Most people get it in just a day or two.
