In 1997, Jimmy Stewart, the actor noted for his role in the classic film "It's a Wonderful Life," died of a lung embolism at the age of 89. In 2000, actor and director Walter Mattheau, who, along with Jack Lemmon, became one of America's favorite comedy duos, died of a heart attack at the age of 79. In 2001, actor Jack Lemmon, whose comic talent landed him roles in such films as "It Could Happen to You" and "Some Like It Hot," died from complications related to cancer. He was 76
