LONDON, England - What's in a name? Apparently your level of sexiness. According to scientists, the right name can make you sexier. To test this theory, linguist Amy Perfors of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology posted pictures of men and women on the U.S. Web site "Hot or Not," which allows visitors to rate photos according to how attractive they find them. When she posted the same photos with different names, she found scores went up and down depending on the vowel location. Men with "front vowels" in their names -- sounds formed at the front of the mouth like the "a" in Matt -- were considered sexier than men with "back vowel" sounds like the "au" in Paul, she concluded. The opposite was true for women, who were considered sexier if they had back vowels rather than front ones.
