my Rick
12 string
was $400 new
and I sold it for
the same amount, just to
get out from under it,
of course, the first thing I did
was sample the shit out of it
by playing it on as many
multitrack recordings as I
could find, I knew someday
I'd have my own sampler...

The Rick 12 string, like Roger
McGuinn in the Byrds always played, looks good when watching it on TV,
but get it in your hands and its a tiny little uptight bitch.
I could not for the
life of me get clear unmuffled notes, I wasn't pressing the strings down
on the frets accurately, they're too small and acrowded, you have to aim
your fingertips in there and only touch on the tips of the pads, a
Rickenbacher 12 string fret space is SMALLER than the regular width of
your fingers, its a lot like a mandolin, to me.
Of course shop for all
music gear on ebay and ebay alone. BY FAR the best deals.
The Coral Electric
Sitar is a groovy little axe. The Rick 12 is a piece of dogshit.
Best 12 string is
Takamine large acoustic with a bridge pickup inside. Mic the neck side
and the body bulge side, each with a condenser mic, at least 3 ft. from
the guitar, on each side, with the neck side mic a little higher up.
Record the bridge piezo direct with a DI box.
That's 3 tracks in all,
2 are stereo, and the piezo track is a mono to mix in more metallic
edge, whenever and wherever you notice it wanting a sharper blade, to
cut those slices of mind cheese perfectky, so they melt just right when
popped out of a micro brain oven.
