RODNEY DANGERFIELD, COMIC AND ACTOR, DEAD AT 82 Rodney Dangerfield, the comedian known for his self- deprecating one-liners and signature phrase "I can't get no respect," died Tuesday at the age of 82. Publicist Kevin Sasaki said Dangerfield died following what he called a difficult recovery from heart valve replacement surgery Aug. 25. Dangerfield's doctors said he suffered a small stroke after the surgery and developed infectious and abdominal complications from which he did not recover. Dangerfield became a sensation in middle age with a string of broad film comedies starting with "Caddyshack" in 1980. He opened one of America's first comedy clubs - Dangerfield's in Manhattan - and helped launch the careers of comics like Jim Carrey and Jerry Seinfeld. He had comedic roles in other films, including "Easy Money" and "Back to School." His performances typically mirrored his stand-up comedy persona, with Dangerfield playing boisterous characters with a knack for one-liners. In June, Dangerfield released his auto- biography, "It's Not Easy Bein' Me."
