when they set up the JA's gear, I thought it was a joke band or something, I'd never seen anything like it, a wall of amps of every known stripe, including top of the line Fender Twin Reverbs and incredibly dilapidated pieces of shit. ALL were painted with really cheesy spray paint and day glo colors, the speaker cloths on most of the amps were shredded, it was a wall of SHIT, and it was stacked all crooked and off center, it went all the way across the stage. The drums were Slingerland, all different colors from different sets, and one cymbal had a big wedge cut out of it with a hack saw. I thought its was gonna be a clown band before the Jefferson Airplane, but that clown band WAS the Jefferson Airplane. And they were fantastic. The bass player Jack Cassidy was the most outstanding band member, but I remember Jorma was very outstanding, too. The singer Marty Balin was obviously the leader, and of course Grace Slick was the star. Dryden was a good drummer, the whole band was VERY GOOD, they had 3 lead singers.
