We all remember the horrifying tragedy that blasted south- eastern Asia several weeks ago when a mountainous wall of water devastated low-lying lands and killed thousands. Well, more than one rumor has passed across my desk claiming that the tsunami was caused by the crash of an alien spacecraft— NOT an earthquake under the ocean. While the claims differ in detail, they all share one basic premise: that a huge UFO traveling at blinding speed plunged into deep waters, creating the killer wave. In other words, the tsunami was caused by the "splash" of the spacecraft rather than any natural tectonic phenomena. Why didn't anyone see this happen? The bloggers and rumor- mongers claim that the UFO was traveling anywhere from 5,000 to 7,500 miles per hour, meaning that the event was over in fractions of a second. Plus, some investigators are interviewing primitive tribesman in the general vicinity with hopes that one of their clan witnessed the plunge. I have also learned that a group of adventurers is trying to put together a deep ocean search. However, lack of financing and the fact that area to be searched encompasses several thousand square miles means that it's likely the rumor will neither be substantiated nor squashed for years to come. Conspiracy buffs should be pleased at this new addition to their lists of unexplainable mysteries. Of course, I'll inform you as new wrinkles develop.
