the bottom line in the medium called "music"... regardless of the logistics.... in the listeners mind, the only criterion that matters is the integrity that's behind it.... in a word, "sincerity"... does the artist "mean it"?... another way of saying it might be, "Is It REAL?" you look at the artist, either they "live it", or they don't. A "fake" life, or "psuedo personality" won't cut the mustard, no matter how "right" it sounds, or how "correct" it looks. Ultimately, music is rhythm, and rhythm can't be faked or minimalized, especially not to "save time". This is why concepts like "ok for now" are NOT OK in the first place, much less for NOW. Its an honorable thing to "do your best" and fail miserably. If its not good enough, then say, "Its not good enough." That's what the day to day work of an artist is all about., conquering the formidable beast known as BULLSHITTING YOURSELF. Ever notice how pissed off artists get? Its called artistic temperment, and you better pay it ALL the respect its due, and a little more, or you're very likely to wind up with a serious fight on your hands you don't quite understand. And you're going to lose that fight, unless you've got what it takes to pull it off. Its called "genuine human kindness", and it only comes from one place... the human heart. It can''t be faked either. Notice the terminology shared by the human heart and rhythm in music: "beat" "pulse" "faster" "slower" "pounding" "throbbing". Even if the actual sound is part illusion, part reality, the thing that proves the vailidity or quality is HEART. And heart is well worth the best you can afford to keep it going. Its called "life". Isn't two hearts beating as one the whole point? If it takes longer, and costs more... so what? The BEST is worth more than all the WORST plus all the GOOD ENOUGH FOR NOW combined.
