m-audio keystation pro 88 $400From: no sounds at all, with wooden keys but be warned, the first versions had response problems, you want the updated software, lots of good knobs, or midi twiddlers as I call them. I couldn't agree more about the presets. They are annoying as hell. Exceptions: meticulously modeled emulations of classic keyboards, especially like the Nemesis grand pianos, and the Native Instruments Hammond organ. Also I like a GOOD Wurlitzer 200 electric piano emulation. I'll take any Rhodes sound that's there, especially a REAL one. I use Alesis keys for "grip", realistic response of pianos and organ, but recording the midi, and replacing with the "late stuff". Also I seriously mangle anything that makes me sick. |
