DENIS D'AMOUR, VOIVOD FOUNDING MEMBER, DEAD AT 45 Voivod founding member and guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour has died of colon cancer in Montreal at age 45. D'Amour died surrounded by friends and family Friday, one day after he slipped into a coma, MTV.com reported. One of Canada's pioneering thrash metal bands, Voivod had its first commercially successful albums in 1989 with "Nothingfact" on MCA. The band split up in 2001 and regrouped a few months later with former Metallica guitarist Jason Newsted on board. The rockers had spent the last few months recording their 11th album and their first for The End Records, MTV said. The label released a statement saying it was "devestated" by D'Amour's death. "In many senses, he will always be alive through his music," the statement said. It was unclear what would be done with the recently recorded material.
