| Ok, first things first. To hear Cypress Hill in the proper element, you need to be outside, in the neighborhood. Of course whatever I say here is true in the studio, or in your house, but its more true outdoors. To me, Cypress Hill is neighborhood rap, coming from a boom box or a car. Its the REAL SHIT. You can just tell by the beat and the vocal tone. I don't know the dude's name, sorry, I listen to Cypress Hill a lot, but the writing is too goddamn small. I can't see shit on their covers. Its the dude with the POINTED VOICE, what's his name? Muggs? Might be Muggs, anyway that dude is fucking great. Their shit is ominous. It always has this TUNING, its real strange to my college trained Reaktorized ears. I love it, I can't quite decipher it. The lyrics aren't bunch of BULLSHIT, neither. You know its real, just by the tone of voice. From a distance their beat will scare you, its so tribal. Coming out of a vehicle its ominous as a mf. Their TRADEMARK is the fact they are a WEED BAND. You put on Cypress Hill and smoke your best weed. You don't waste your best weed on wack-ass nonsense, you play some Cypress Hill because they represent the weed state of mind. |
