Give it time

The levees are fifteen feet high, though it's generally agreed upon that they've subsided up to a foot or so. Now look around you, and pay attention to your ceiling. Imagine what would happen if suddenly there was fourteen+ feet of water in your house, yard, etc. Would you swim down and open the front door during the brief time you had while your head was bouncing against the ceiling, or head to the attic (if you had one)? I don't know about you, but I can say with astonishing accuracy that MY ceiling is about eight or nine feet high, and fifteen feet would probably be up near the ridge of the roof somewhere. Throw in 100-mph winds just for effect. Pick a percentage of people who DIDN'T make it out their door before the levee broke, and DIDN'T manage to float/swim up onto a roof for the duration. I'd say 50% would be a good guess. Those people are still in their houses. I don't know where you got your "body count" from, but if you thrive on such numbers I think you'll have to wait a while before an accurate count and/or pics of bloated corpses you can wank to will be available. Be patient, is all I'm sayin'.
