JACK E. SCHOLL DEAD AT 80 Jack E. Scholl, who helped lead his family's pioneering foot-care company as it went public in the 1970s, has died at the age of 80. Scholl, a World War II veteran and philanthropist was the nephew of Dr. William Mathias Scholl, the famous Chicago footwear pioneer who began making and selling orthopedic products. Jack Scholl was named head of the company's U.S. headquarters in 1968. Dr. Scholl's went public under their leadership in 1971. In 1980, Jack Scholl, who was born in Michigan City, Indiana, became executive director of the Dr. Scholl Foundation, which since has given more than $180 million to charitable causes. Jack Scholl is survived by his wife, Catherine, four children and five grandchildren.
