LONDON -- The sound of Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale" filled a British courtroom Monday where a former member of the band is suing for a share of the copyright and royalties. Matthew Fisher played the organ in the song. He said he wrote the melody, which his attorneys said was "crucial" to the success of the hit. But the band's singer, Gary Brooker, said he co-wrote the song before Fisher joined the band. Brooker's attorney said it's "bizarre" that Fisher waited 39 years to sue. Brooker and Fisher didn't look at each other in the courtroom. They stared straight ahead at the judge.
