richard autry, AKA stash, is a hell of a poet. back in 1982, he was a freckle faced kid who approached me at a gig. we became friends, but he turned out to be a valuable compadre in several ways you might not expect. first, he was a poet, and he's written a LOT, poems and stories. he saw the toiletside reader in its infancy and even published some of it at his school, UTSA. so he's an early supporter of popeye-x.

even more amazing is his EARS. this "kid" knows a lot about music and his hand held recorder samples are truly genius, he was looping with the pause button. i'm not kidding, his knowledge of what's out there is massive, abnormally comprehensive. for instance, he was heavily into brian eno when no one else knew of him. you'd have to see his music collection to really see where his head is at, he KNOWS HIS SHIT.

but there's more.... he was the second person to tell me about this thing called 'the internet'. the first was will alexander, so stash is right there in the evolution of the whole popeye-x mind set.

oh yeah, when i met him, he was a freckled faced kid, now he's over 40 with a family of his own, i know all his kids and his parents, too. when i first met him, he showed me a poem called "images of sanity in a world gone mad" maybe that wasn't the title, perhaps the first line? but i loved it, and our collaboration began there.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL.... this is amazing, but he also made MANY videos for my shit in the 90's, specifically the FTW era. this makes him almost like a co-producer in quite a chunk of my work. not many people have wiggled their way in that far.

we still talk on the phone about once every 2 months, mostly its online emails and posts. and that's stash, one of my best friends ever, and he just walked up out of the blue...

one more factoid: stash is a scholar on texas history, he has many tales to tell of the whole alamo era...get it? he knows ALL ABOUT davy crockett's hat, and related matters!
