Have you tried the Linux Ubuntu OS yet? I use it when I need a quick boot to do some quick business. Lots of free synths out there for Linux, too, although I'm still figuring my way around that. You can actually run it as a separate partition in addition to Windows, so you don't lose XP, etc. Fast. Boot time is like nothing at all.
