Fast and free, but hardly perfect

It's killer for basic computing apps, and takes up very little space. Boot time is fast; no adware to wait for. You have to download codecs for proprietary stuff like mp3, so that can take time. It's still in its beginning stages, and only now becoming user friendly. Great for internet, etc. More artistic apps will mature later. I think some folks just like to experiment with code, and don't mind releasing the product for free. I used lots of free vsts that were better than the stuff that came with Ableton 5. But yeah, I've already bought a lot of what I use, from Ableton, NI, Arturia, Sony, etc. My big issue with that is the DRM that comes with it. Free software doesn't require you to register online, wait for a response, and pray that nothing fucks up. The big boys make great software, but they're too wrapped up in the piracy fight. I feel like the kid with the secret decoder ring every time I buy new shit. The stuff I'm using now will last a long time. The open source stuff is on the horizon, in case I find myself with no tech support during a reinstall. Windows never was all that stable.
