I have been in several bands in my 20+ yrs of musical ambivalence. I have yet to find a musician that doesnt feel like they are in it for the fun. They gotta do it to prove they are the next TANG or "IT" THING. Right now I am in the process of trying to keep a band together and we just hit another snag. Our guitarist and drummer, they came as a set, informed me they wont do anymore practices until another show is on the calendar. But from the beginning, we didnt have enough material to complete a gig. I wanted to have between 35 and 40 songs to do a 4 hr show but they assured me 28 songs for 3 hours were plenty, so we ended up making up a song and repeating 3 others at the end of the night. Why do they think it is responsible to settle for less rather than do what is needed? So I wanted to get another 10 songs under our belt for a COMPLETE gig and then they pull this shit on us. Well, needless to say we are AGAIN looking for new musicians. They will be hired hands until we find other other members. Am I the only one that has this problem? There is another problem, having a new band is really hard to get going. Nobody wants to let you play there first, all the club owners say, "When's your next gig?" and I want to tell them if I had gigs booked I wouldnt be asking for his place to play in. I know lots of guys that have been in the SA music scene for years and all they have to do is say they have another band and they start playing everywhere. Even when they suck or its regurgitated shit from their last deformation of a musical act. I just dont get it. I guess you gotta have the baggy of white powder at all times to get anywhere or do anything. I aint gonna do it. I will just keep on chugging like Uncle Kurt.
