you have no clue what the history of blast music is in south texas. that's understandable from the point of view of someone who cherishes that wonderful event back in 1970-whatever it was, when we all got drunk with the buckboard boogie boys and said "attitude check!" all night long... butch's consummate absorbing of the whole country and western idiom has always fascinated me. apparently i liked him doing it better than he liked himself doing it. i knew him when he was branching into the comedy rock direction he went in the early 1980's with robar adams and go-go hartwell. i was the fourth piece of the blast puzzle. the blast should have "made it". we opened for U2 on their first american gig. they were just little kids, but make no mistake about it, they were VERY good, but so was the blast. the blast started as a trio, i was the completion plank to the band's molecular potential. butch morgan was a spectacular songwriter, guitarist, and entertainer, but at the same time he was the worst band leader i ever saw in my life.
