dark star crashes, pouring it's light into ashes

from: reason tatters, the forces tear loose from the axis 12-12-19

one time, in 1970, i saw the grateful dead play dark star. abut 8 minutes into it, during the usual "jam", they did this incredible MELTDOWN into abstract sound, i was certain that a prepared tape was playing in the background as part of the overall "amoeba", but they were also playing their instruments as feedback along with it. it was an unbelievable wall of verbally indescribable noise except to say it was extremely loud. i remember mickey hart, one of the drummers, was wailing away on this huge stand with 6 massive gongs hanging from it. he had them all activated and fully roaring, they were swinging back and forth madly, like there was a hurricane blowing them from random directions. there was no "hiding" what it all meant, it was way too loud of an abstract evolution of raw sound with no reference point verbally, socially, or rational definition except an LSD hallucination of immense proportion, creeping up thru the band's sound and taking over like a bad storm, and then it melted down into smoldering deconstructed sonic debris whimpering and fading... finally it was gone, and that was the end of the concert. it was MIND BLOWING, the depth and complexity of the sonic texture was patently grateful dead ACID-ness.
