Published November 10 2000, 4:28 PM EST AUSTIN -- George W. Bush sported a bandage today to cover an area above his right cheek which was treated for a boil. "I got a little infection, just an infection," Bush told reporters during a brief news conference. His communications director, Karen Hughes, said the Texas governor developed "some sort of boil" and had a doctor examine the red, inflamed area. "We're not certain what caused it, maybe an ingrown hair," she said, adding that "it's not a pleasing sight. It's a large bump." Bush first noticed the sore during the last days of the campaign, when it became sore, Hughes said. The spot grew larger after Bush exercised, she said. The doctor advised Bush to use heat compresses until the boil drains. Hughes said the governor may also be taking an antibiotic to reduce the swelling. Copyright © 2002, The Associated Press
