I've seen two movies recently that are masterpieces, "Requiem For a Dream" and "Hedwig and the Angry Inch." We just saw "Hedwig" last night and I was completely blown away. I read the description and thought it would be the kind of crap Mrs. Ed likes, and wish I hadn't. I would rather it had been a complete surprise. I haven't seen anything that original and unexpected since "Rocky Horror Picture Show" (which I'm just using for comparison. There will doubtlessly be comparisons made between the two movies, but "Hedwig" makes "Rocky Horror" look like Beethoven's 9th Symphony done on a banjo.) Don't read any descriptions, just watch it. "Requiem" is without a doubt the most intense fucking movie I've ever seen. I ran across a picture of Jennifer Connolly ("Labyrinth") on the 'net, naked and gorgeous, and rented the DVD because of that. Boy was I surprised. Mrs. Ed innocently says "hmmm, let's watch this one" and I cackled quietly in anticipation of her howls of outrage at such open nudity and degradation. I thought it might be a comedy. Instead, it was like a roller-coaster ride that lasts two hours and completely involves all your senses. You can't take your eyes off it, it comes in through your eyes and scrambles your frontal lobes.
