who's right or wrong?

I'm not particularly interested in what the moral highground is in any of this. I'm more acutely concerned with what is efficacious towards our ends. The response that those attitudes betray why we are so disliked around the world comes from the position that being liked is a priority. It's never been a question to me of who is right or wrong or who is on who's level. It's a matter of what do we need to do at the most minimal cost to achieve the greatest measure of security for us and our interests. There is no other consideration, at least initially. Once we are secure, then perhaps we can take a look at causes and conditions that produce an atmosphere where terrorism can become a viable option and address those issues in a way that pleases the most people possible. I'm not in favor of brutality for its own sake, but I am in favor of doing whatever it takes to make our antagonists globally recoil from the idea of carrying out violent acts against us as if the notion were an open-faced shit sandwich on one slice a bread. A timid response to anything those folks do is a provocation to further violent means on their part. People keep returning to this issue as if these were normal combatants we're dealing with. They are not at all like that. The Comanche were exterminated for the same reasons. No matter how noble you may think their cause is, their methods and stance towards the rest of us makes their continued existence beyond contemplation. It's an us or them situation, and I'd rather we won this one. We can feel guilty about it later.
