Talking to the wife (or "waff," to you Texans) and I said; "I can't believe April 16th, I'll be 44. I sure don't feel 44." She said "Well, you should. You'll be 45. You've been 44 for a whole year, dimwit." Jesus, where did that come from? Onset of Alzheimer's already? Losing a year like that, at my age, can be quite a burden. Especially when I got to thinking "wait a minute, did I actually lose 44 or 43? I don't remember being 43, maybe I lost that year too..." Maybe it's because I didn't get my free "Son of Slam" meal at Denny's or a free cupcake at IHOP. Well, I'm not missing out this year. In about an hour I'm driving down to visit my folks (past the fabled Denny's in Salinas, which I'm going to be sure to avoid this time) and reflect on my wickedness and sins of the past year. (Especially that nonsense with ________ about irrelevant ______s) This year, I'm making a vow not to eat liver or Brussels Sprouts until we achieve world peace, not to smoke more than one cigarette at a time, and to stop wetting the bed.
