GEORGE WYLE, WROTE 'GILLIGAN'S ISLAND' THEME, DEAD AT 87 George Wyle, who co-wrote the theme song to "Gilligan's Island" and the Christmas classic "It's the Most Wonder- ful Time of the Year," died in Tarzana, Calif. He was 87.
"The Ballad of Gilligan's Island," which Wyle wrote with the show's creator and producer, Sherwood Schwartz, became one of the most popular television theme songs. In recent years he wrote music and lyrics and directed choirs for community groups and schools in Thousand Oaks, Calif. In Los Angeles he worked as choral director for the Dinah Shore, Andy Williams and Jerry Lewis television shows. He also handled music for specials by David Copperfield and Carol Channing, and for the People's Choice Awards pres- entations.
