According to Mr. Steven Johnson Phd (who wrote the difinative history of San antonio) in his U.T.S.A. graduate class on the history of San Antonio the city was passed by by history because the leaders who had a stranglehold on power were never interestd in investing in the city. They belived that S.A. would always be #1 so saw no need to put forth any effort to maintain it. First they allowed the capitol to be moved to the new city of Austin, then alowed Dallas and Houston to attract all he industries etc. In those days S.A. was a german town and was run by a group of wealthy german immigrants. -Al Laymo
