I'd Rather Lend You My Studio Than My Microphones

I was talking to the wunderkid of guitar, Mr. Eric, and he had some recording thing in mind and asked if he could borrow my large diaphram condenser pair... uh, sorry, Eric, I hate to say "NO" but I'd rather lend you my studio than lend you my microphones. That's fine with him, he just wants to play and record "like Miles". I said then you're all set, come on over any time you like.

I think he was bashful about doing it more OFTEN. Never be bashful about "often" around me, how about "every day"? Can you handle it? I've been handling it, daily. Not like professional engineers with paying clients, you know, occasionally. I'm more into "everyday all day long", ever heard of that schedule? That's when a basketcase artist works... "always". Its a crummy job. You have to pay yourself, I usually pay myself with what I got, studio time with THESE instruments. Its not the same as some professional engineers, you know, adjusting volumes for very tired local bands. Dreary fucking work.

My job is different. I CREATE the music. Music? Yeah, I make it up. From scratch. Its totally abnormal shit, always always always abnormal. You know why? Here's the secret.

(whispering): I do it weird on purpose.... that's how the... fun stuff happens... when something... get this... NEW comes along.

(back to regular voice): Its that "new" thing that makes all the difference between staying in the same place, like professionl engineers, and moving forward, learning new things, and staying inspired, like a complete basketcase artist.

That's the deal, INSPIRATION. You can't buy it anywhere. You must find a source somehow, and somehow you have to make it yours. Easy enough with a guitar in your lap, but a whole studio? At your beckon call? Very tough nut to crack. How are you gonna justify it, much less pay for it?

There's only one possible answer, and please pass this on to Steve Wisnoski, the free online guitar lesson guy, its the same answer as the music lesson dilemna. The ONLY answer on all levels is one thing, and one thing only... RHYTHM. You knew I was going to say that didn't you? Another name for that around here is REAKTOR.
